Meet The Team
Riikka is our chief beekeeper overseeing our breeder queen apiary. Originally from Finland, Riikka moved to the UK in 2005. She soon started working for British Honey Producers Ltd. alongside master beekeeper Ged Marshall, learning about honey production and discovering a passion for queen rearing. She enjoys learning and is always seeking ways to improve and develop our queen production processes. Aside from honey she is also very partial to a little salt liquorice in true Scandinavian style!

Tim looks after the mating hives in our nursery apiary as well as managing our drone mother and honey colonies. Growing up he had an aunt who kept bees but he only started beekeeping himself when he met Riikka. As a lover of the great outdoors it quickly became a real passion for him. He particularly enjoys summer mornings collecting mated queens in our woodland nursery apiary ready for our customers. Tim also takes care of most of our marketing, orders, and customer communication.
Riikka and Tim have three sons and a black Labrador. The two older sons and the dog help out in various ways through the summer. |
British Honey Producers Ltd. remains in operation for honey production and bee experiences with Bex and Kai joining Ged at the helm. Ged continues to be involved with BHP Queens offering practical assistance, wisdom and countless stories and anecdotes from the past.
Bee Keeping has always been both a passion and an art for Ged. He started beekeeping when he was 15 and got his first hives in the early '80s. Over the years he has travelled extensively to further his knowledge and develop best practices, working with bees in France, the Canary Islands, Denmark and at Buckfast Abbey in Devon with Brother Adam. In 2014 Ged was the first Bee Farmer in the country to be awarded the status of 'Master Bee Farmer' having reached the highest level in the art, science and craft of bee farming. He has also served on the Bee Farmers Association committee for a number of years and in 2017 he was elected chairman. |
