BHP Queens is a family run business based in rural Buckinghamshire with a rich bee keeping heritage. Riikka is our managing director and chief Bee Keeper. Originally from Finland, Riikka moved to the UK in 2005. She soon started working for British Honey Producers Ltd. alongside her father-in-law, Ged, learning about honey production and discovering a passion for queen rearing. In 2020 Riikka and her husband Tim formed BHP Queens to take over the queen rearing side of the business from British Honey Producers Ltd.

British Honey Producers Ltd. remains in operation for honey production and Ged will stay involved in BHP Queens offering practical assistance, wisdom and no doubt countless stories and anecdotes from the past. Bee Keeping has always been both a passion and an art for Ged. He started beekeeping when he was 15 and got his first hives in the early '80s. Over the years he has travelled extensively to further his knowledge and develop best practices, working with bees in France, the Canary Islands, Denmark and at Buckfast Abbey in Devon with Brother Adam. In 2014 Ged was the first Bee Farmer in the country to be awarded the status of 'Master Bee Farmer' having reached the highest level in the art, science and craft of bee farming. He has also served on the Bee Farmers Association committee for a number of years and in 2017 he was elected chairman.
