Background
BHP Queens is a family business in Buckinghamshire building on generations of bee keeping and queen rearing experience. We have approximately sixty honey production colonies alongside 800 mating nuclei for queen production, rearing 2000 mated queens each season.
We are looking to grow our team with the position of a seasonal Beekeeper employed for 6 months between April and September 2024 (Exact dates negotiable). You will work alongside Tim and Riikka as well as in close partnership with Ged Marshall of British Honey Producers Ltd.
Job Description
This role is extremely varied. As a member of a small team we are looking for someone who can contribute across the range of activities involved in the business. We would expect the successful candidate to have some relevant beekeeping experience but we will look to provide training as necessary. Of particular benefit would be experience of queen rearing and grafting. Beekeeping duties would include colony management, harvesting honey, grafting, preparing mating nuclei, and queen collecting. Additional experience in social media, marketing, administration and customer interaction would be desirable but not essential. The successful candidate will be able to work under pressure with a degree of flexibility.
This job will be for a period of 6 months.
Salary / Hours
£12.00 - £15.00 per hour depending on experience
Hours worked during summer months will be around 25 hours per week but variable depending on the weather (in keeping with the nature of beekeeping)
Annual Leave
We provide statutory annual leave (12 days over the 6 month period)

Start Date
You need to be able to start by the beginning of April and work until at least the end of August.
Local Area & Accomodation
Steeple Claydon is a great place to live and work It is a large village in West Buckinghamshire between Buckingham and Bicester. Oxford and Milton Keynes are not too far away, and the national trust properties of Waddesdon, Stowe and Claydon House are all close by. The village has a co-op supermarket, various takeaways, a cafe and a pub. The village is surrounded by farmland with lots of walks.
We have caravan accommodation available for applicants from outside the area if required. Use of the caravan can be included in the terms of employment without any additional rental charge. The person staying in the caravan will be required to contribute towards utilities.

Full driving licence (UK legal).
